About

Mig Gilbert is a contemporary printmaker who lives and works in Brighton, UK.

After growing up on the Norfolk Broads, she moved away from the slow pace of the countryside to study fine art in the industrial Midlands. There she developed a passion for printmaking, particularly screen printing. Her escape from the country spawning a fascination with the urban environment.

Mig’s art reflects on the small differences that give cities their own alluring character. Through indulging in travel, her other passion, she collates images of the elements that give a place its identity and combines these to create reimagined windows into the city in her art.

Mig utilises the screen printing process to densely layer photographic, hand-drawn and found imagery to recreate the cacophony of colours, sounds and smells which are discovered when exploring someplace new. Her prints are usually variable edition, meaning each composition is unique, mimicking the constantly changing perspective when travelling through the urban landscape.
