About

Mig Gilbert is a contemporary printmaker who lives and works in Brighton.

Mig’s world growing up was very small, and at the age of 18 she moved away from the slow pace of the countryside to study fine art in the industrial Midlands. There she developed a passion for printmaking. Her escape from the country spawned a fascination with the urban environment.

In broadening her world, Mig developed a passion for travel.  Her work reflects on the small differences that give cities their own alluring character. She collates the elements that give a place its identity, be that a landmark, symbol or street furniture and combines these to create reimagined windows into the city, from the perspective of a visitor.

Mig utilises the screenprinting process to densely layer photographic, hand-drawn and found imagery to recreate the cacophony of colours, sounds and smells which are discovered when exploring somewhere new. Her prints are often variable edition, meaning each composition is unique, mimicking the constantly changing perspective when travelling through the urban landscape.
